The Lou's Place Transformation - Behind the Scenes

 

Grounded by our belief that the right rug can instantly enrich and transform a space, we want to give this feeling to our community, in the best way we knew how. Which is why every year during winter at Rug Culture, we offer a selection of our rugs to local Sydney Shelters.

This year was extra special as we got a chance to team with Emma Blomfield and completely transform Lou's Place, Sydney's only daytime refuge for women.

 Lou's Place offers a community-based refuge for women in crisis, homeless, feeling isolated or needing support in Kings Cross, offering them a space for women to rest, eat, shower, and enjoy company as they rebuild their lives.  

Our own Afsoon Kisirwani and Emma, put their heads together and came up with a fresh new decor plan for the common room and healing room that were looking very tired and cluttered.

With Rug Culture and Emma's networks combined, we began to bring together the dream team to transform Lou's space and provide the wonderful women at the shelter a more beautiful space to rest, feel safe and recuperate.

We reached out to our contacts in the design world and were gratefully overwhelmed with the support and enthusiasm we received. At its core, what truly underpinned this project was our collective belief it is important for women to have a space where they feel safe and valued. 

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the contributors who have all collectively came together to transform Lou's Place!

We are so proud of the transformation that took place, and are privileged that we were able to make a difference to a shelter that has such a big impact on women's lives.
